Teaser Tuesday #12

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted over at Should Be Reading where we book bloggers give you lovely readers a tantalizing taste of whatever it is we are reading right now. To play along:

•  Grab your current read
•  Open to a random page
•  Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
•  BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
•  Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week's teaser is:
 The Maid and The Queen:
The Secret History of Joan or Arc
Nancy Goldstone
Genre: History, Non-Fiction
"She took Charles with her, to be brought up with her own children, just as she had once taken the duke of Burgundy's daughter Catherine into her home. There was nothing at all remarkable in this---nothing except that the quiet, withdrawn little boy Yolande shepherded out of Paris that cold Februrary morning, just two weeks short of his eleventh birthday, would grow up to be the man Joan of Arc called the dauphin."
pg. 69

I was not aware at the time I took this on for review that it was a non-fiction history book rather than a novelization of historical events. I normally don't take on biographies or other works of non-fiction for this blog, however I must say I've become captivated with the story Goldstone is so eloquently revealing in the pages of The Maid and The Queen. The book is split into three portions; Before Joan, Joan of Arc, and After Joan. I'm very interested to see just how Yolande of Aragon influenced Joan's success and how Yolande in turn seemed to fade into the recesses of history. If you are a fan of non-fiction and Joan of Arc, I would recommend picking this one up. As a reader of mostly fiction, I am enjoying it very much and feel it could be a good introduction for me into reading more books like it.

What's your teaser this week?
